Overview:
This project was a design for good initiative focused on education.
I created a supportive mobile app designed specifically for looked
after children. In England, children in care often face educational
disadvantages due to inconsistent support and being overlooked.
This project aimed to create a solution that puts their needs and
voices at the centre.
Objective:
To create an app with a focus on motivating and setting goals,
tracking progress, improving planning and organisation as well as
boosting self confidence. The app should promote a sense of
stability which is crucial for vulnerable children.
Roles & Responsibilities:
I was solely responsible for all stages of the project including
research and interviews, user testing, UX/UI design, prototyping
and presentation materials. There was a strict attention to safe-
guarding due to working with a vulnerable user group. As someone
who is care experienced myself, I provided valuable insight.
Outcome:
The final result was a scrapbook style app designed to feel
personal, low pressure and supportive. It offers looked after
children a space to reflect and feel in control of their own progress.
A small but meaningful tool that can help them stay engaged in
education.
